What you can do
Whatever you dump down storm drains in the Still Creek Watershed ends up in Still Creek. Help us reduce water pollution in the creek by following a few simple steps.
- Dispose of toxic chemicals, oil, paint or similar substances properly at disposal facilities and never allow these substances to run into storm drains on your property or your street.
- Repair vehicles that are leaking oil, gasoline or other fluids promptly - vehicle fluids running off pavement is a major source of creek pollution.
- Limit areas of concrete, paving and other hard surfacing on your property - rainwater that can soak into the ground helps keep Still Creek flowing during periods of low rainfall.
- Learn about environmentally friendly alternatives to pesticides and herbicides - for ideas on natural yard care techniques, please visit www.grownatural.ca.
- Don’t empty hot tubs and pools into the storm sewer system. Chemicals added to hot tubs and pools are toxic to fish.
- Visit Still Creek and get involved with community groups in your area that are working toward enhancing the creek or other environmental initiatives.
- Mark the storm drains in your neighbourhood - contact 3-1-1 and request to borrow the distinctive "yellow fish marking" kit from the City's Environmental Protection Branch. For more information on the storm drain marking program visit Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Storm Drain Marking Program.

- To report a spill affecting either the creek or storm drains, please contact the Environmental Protection Branch by calling 3-1-1.
