Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan
The Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan is now complete! From November 2007 to May 2008, the City undertook a cultural facility study working with Artscape Consultants out of Toronto. This study has delivered a Facilities Priorities Plan
(3.40mb) that articulates cultural “place and space” priorities for the next 15 years, as well as recommendations on strategies for how the City, working with community, government and private partners, can begin to realize these priorities. The Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan ties into the larger Creative City Conversation and 2001-2008 Culture Plan
(207kb); it is a key aspect of the Culture Plan implementation.
From January 11 to February 28, 2008, Artscape surveyed over 500 arts and culture organizations and individual artists/creators to assess current and future space demand. In May 2008, further opportunities to view the draft recommendations and make comment on the Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan were scheduled, including the second Creative City Conversation on May 12.
On June 26, 2008, Vancouver City Council approved the recommendations outlined in the report on Phase I of the 2008-2023 Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan
(1.23mb) as part of the implementation of the 2008-2018 Culture Plan.
The Cultural Facilities Priority Plan is complete but it is also a living document that will continue to evolve and change as Vancouver, and our arts and culture community, also grows and changes. Ongoing input is encouraged and welcome.
