Property Use Inspections
Problem Property
Problem Property: A building or site may be considered a “problem” if there are multiple by-law violations or if the way in which the premises is being used is causing distress to neighbouring residents and/or a drain on Police and City resources.
The Coordinated Enforcement Division takes the lead in coordinating the inspection of a Problem Property with other inspection groups, Police and Agencies as required. The results of the inspection are reviewed collectively and a strategic enforcement approach is developed. Depending on the violation, compliance can be achieved either by “nuisance designation”, hiring of contractors to do the work, business license review, injunctive relief or prosecution.
