Changes to a Licence

If you would like to make changes to your existing licence, you will be required to complete and submit a Business Licence Change of Information Form PDF(82kb) with payment of the appropriate fee. Changes include any amendments to a business name, trade name, address or classification. If this is a change of business address to a residential location, you will also be required to complete and submit a Conditions of a Home-Based Business Licence form PDF(57kb). If this is a change of ownership, you must apply for a new licence or a transfer instead.


Change of Business Name or Business Trade Name: $10.00

    • If this is a change of incorporated company name, please provide a copy of the Certificate of Change of Name issued by the Registrar of Companies
    • If this is a change from a sole proprietor or partnership to an incorporated company name, please provide a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies
    • If this change is to add or remove a partner's name for a partnership, please provide a written consent from all parties involved and a copy of the picture identification of the new partner (if adding a partner's name)
    • If this is a change of business trade name, a certificate is not required


Change of Business Address: $22.00*

    • If this is a change of business address, various approvals may be required:
        • Zoning
          Depending on the zoning of the proposed location, your business may or may not be permitted, or may only be permitted after a Development Permit is obtained. To find out if your type of business is permitted in the chosen location, inquire with the Enquiry Centre.
        • Building
          A review of the property will be provided by staff at the Occupancy/File Research Counter. The review may result in the requirement for a "special inspection" of the building or a Building Permit.
        • Licence
          It may be necessary to obtain other approvals from the Police, Fire or Health Departments. Staff will assist you with this process.

*If this is a change of mailing address, the change of business address fee does not apply.


Change of Business Classification: $10.00

    • If this is a change of business licence category, various approvals may be required:
        • Zoning
          Depending on the zoning of the proposed location, your business may or may not be permitted, or may only be permitted after a Development Permit is obtained. To find out if your type of business is permitted in that location, inquire with the Enquiry Centre.
        • Building
          A review of the property will be provided by staff at the Occupancy/File Research Counter. The review may result in the requirement for a "special inspection" of the building or a Building Permit.
        • Licence
          It may be necessary to obtain other approvals from the Police, Fire or Health Departments. A provincial certificate for the new business classification may also be required. Staff will assist you with this process.


Processing Time

The time required to process changes to an existing licence can vary, depending on the type of change and the time of year. If ALL requirements and approvals have been met, a change made in person can be processed on the same day and a change request that is received by mail, email or fax may take 2-3 weeks. A change request that is received during the licence renewal period (from November to February) may take 6-8 weeks for processing.

If you are planning to come into our office during the licence renewal period (from November to February), please expect lengthy waiting times.
