Core Area Group Meetings

April 11, 12, 18 and 19, 2011

Meetings were held for the King Edward, Oakridge Langara and Marine Landing Core Area Groups in April to provide an update on the Cambie Corridor Plan, answer any questions and identify the next steps prior to going to Council. Due to the large number of interested participants a second meeting date was added for the King Edward group. Approximately 300 individuals attended the four meeting dates. Based on feedback from previous community sessions, the proponents of key sites around the intersection presented their ideas for Marine Landing, including a comprehensive public realm concept. Staff described ongoing work requiring completion for the Marine Landing precinct including a traffic study, retail impact assessment, public benefits strategy and ongoing study and analysis regarding height, massing and density. Staff advised that they would report back to the community with the results of the ongoing work.

The second round of Open Houses to discuss the emerging plan for the Cambie Corridor were attended by over 550 people. Community members viewed and gave their feedback on a variety of plan elements including character, built form, amenities, land use and public space opportunities.

Marine Landing Workshop

November 19, 2010

A workshop for the Marine Drive station area was held at the Marpole Oakridge Community Centre. Proponents of key sites around the intersection presented their ideas for each site, as well as an emerging public realm proposal for the Marine Landing precinct based on discussions and feedback from the workshop on November 2, 2010.

Youth Engagement Workshop

October 25, 2010

On October 25th a workshop was held at Churchill Secondary to have youth leaders come together to talk about public realm elements along the Cambie Corridor; 22 youth participated in this session. Leading up to the workshop, youths were provided with background information on the planning program and asked to explore their neighbourhood through the camera lens. Participants took photographs along the Cambie Corridor, exploring streets, lanes and parks. At the workshop, youth leaders discussed issues related to key problems successes, challenges and potentials for improvement in each of the three thematic areas. In order to capture the youths feedback and ideas about the Cambie Corridor, the workshop was videotaped, and the footage was edited by 5 youths who participated in the workshop. The video can be viewed below.

Residents living near the Marine Drive Station were invited to participate in a workshop to explore elements of urban form, public realm, transportation, and public benefits around the station. The neighbourhood Walkabouts and Workshops were well attended by over 220 residents. Planners met with residents in the King Edward, Oakridge/Langara and Marine Drive Station areas to walk the neighbourhood and hear their comments, concerns, and ideas for future planning. The Walkabouts were followed by a workshop at a local venue to document and record the ideas, comments and suggestions. Consultation with Senior High School Students
