Kirsten will be moving to a new position in regulation policy at the City of Vancouver. The start date for her new position is on June 18 however until a replacement is hired, likely beginning of July, Kirsten has volunteered to continue to be the contact person. The Committee also indicated that if it was possible they would like it if Kirsten could come out to their next meeting in September and provide some transition for the new KCC planner.

5. Update on 4550 Fraser Street (Kirsten)

Kirsten informed the committee that the City has responded to the developers’ inquiry and indicated that the City would support a rezoning but that the Rate of Change Regulation would apply to the CD-1 site (the site behind the shopping strip) and therefore the developer would be required to replace the 48 rental apartments with the same amount or more of rental housing.

6. Further discussion on Ruth Morton Church idea (Michael K.)

Postponed to the next meeting in September.

7. Discussion about the ideas generated at the KCC ACM in April (Kirsten)

At the ACM in April there were series of poster boards that were up which asked residents about projects that they would like to work on in KCC. Kirsten compiled the list of ideas and presents it to the committee. The committee agreed to review the findings and discuss which projects they would like to work on at the meeting in September.

8. 1913 portion of Charles Dickens School (Barbara M.)

There has been a great deal of confusion and the community is upset about the school boards decision to demolish the 1913 portion of the Charles Dickens School. Barbara did some research into the situation and found out that Sarah McLaughlin School of music had been looking at a variety of sites for their school and decided against the Charles Dickens site. In addition, the City is willing and interested to work with the school board so that they could utilize the City owned right of way as part of the school grounds. The committee was very upset about the loss of an important heritage site in their community and decided to form a sub-committee of people interested in seeing if they could get the school board to reconsider their decision to demolish the 1913 portion of Charles Dickens.

9. Public Realm Discussion with regards to King Edward Village (Michael)

Postponed until the September meeting.

Tina and Sunita told the committee that they will be resigning from the MOBY Board citing a variety of problems, working with Jason O’Brian as a contributing factor in their decision to resign. In an effort to ensure the success of the next board and the project as a whole Tina and Sunita will continue to be involved in the project, provide some training for the next Board, and advertise for skilled people to join the new board.
