Welcome
1. March Meeting Notes
The meeting notes were adopted
2. Firehall #15
- A recent article appearing in the Renfrew Collingwood News has piqued
public interest in saving the 90 year-old Firehall.
- Firehall #15 is slated for redevelopment.
- Some local residents would like to see the facility renovated or put
to another use - e.g. a dance studio or arts centre.
- A meeting is scheduled for April 28, 9:00 am at Renfrew Community
Centre, to discuss the re-use of the building. Heritage Planner, Yardley
McNeil and a representative from the Fire Department will attend.
3. Traffic Subcommittee
- On April 14th Committee members met with Jack Becker, from the Vancouver
Area Cycling Association. They also discussed their involvement in Collingwood
Days and decided to attend the event to promote activities of the CityPlan
Committee and the Traffic Subcommittee.
- On Tuesday, April 26th, City Council will consider a report about
the redesignation of secondary arterials to collectors. Several streets
in Renfrew Collingwood are included in this report. People who want
to speak to Council about the report should register with the City Clerk.
- It was noted that residents living along Slocan north of 22nd Avenue
would like to have the stretch from Kingsway to Grandview included in
the redesignation of Slocan.
- The Traffic Subcommittee will send a letter to City Council based
on the decision made on April 26th.
- Rob encouraged Committee members to attend a meeting being hosted
by the Hastings-Sunrise CityPlan Committee on April 25th, on the freeway
expansion and the Port Mann Bridge .
4. Green Streets
- The Greening Subcommittee met on April 14th at Julie's house. They
discussed plans for the planting party on East 22nd Avenue. Julie is
applying for a Neighbourhood Small Grant.
- The Renfrew Ravine Group is hosting a planting event on May 29th.
- The next meeting will be held at Louise's house on May 12th.
5.Still Creek
Shannon submitted a request for Capital funding to do a Master Plan for
Renfrew Park.
6. Environmental Tea- April 9
- The event was well attended and everyone had a good time.
- The seed swap and plant sale were a success.
7. Annual Newsletter
- The newsletter is in its final phase of production. Final edits should
be sent to Edna before the end of the week.
- Newsletters will be delivered by Canada Post in Ad Mail during the
week of May 9th - before Collingwood Days.
8. Annual Community Meeting
- The meeting will be hosted by Susan and Heather.
- The meeting will begin with a meet/greet/treat followed by brief presentations
by community groups and service providers.
- Presenters (10) at the meeting will include: the Transportation &
Traffic Subcommittee (contact: Rob & Susan); Windermere Secondary
School Project (contact: Bill to arrange a student speaker); Slocan
Park Improvement Project (contact: Edna to arrange a speaker); Renfrew
Ravine/Still Creek Project (contact: Shannon); Moon Festival (contact:
Carmen); Firehall #15 (contact: Nancy); Renfrew Collingwood News (contact:
Paul Reid); Collingwood Days (contact: Manuela or Carmen); Renfrew Community
Centre (contact: Nancy); Collingwood CPC (contact: Chris Taulu).
- Each speaker/presenter will be given about 3-4 minutes to give an
update on their project.
- Susan, Heather and Rob will arrive at 8:30 a.m.to help City staff
set-up.
9. Video Footage of RC Community Events/ Project
- Ingrid Timm of Greater.Vancouver TV offered to edit film footage of
RC for promotion and at community events. The cost will be approximately
$150.
- The Committee approved an expenditure of up to $150 for a video of
RC community projects and initiatives to be shown at upcoming events
like the Annual Community Meeting, Collingwood Days, the Moon Festival,
etc.
- Rob and Chris will meet with Ingrid to discuss the project.
10. R-C City Plan Committee Spring/Summer Schedule
The Committee unanimously agreed to take a summer break in July and August.
