CityPlan Community Visions
Summer '97 Updates

Dunbar / Kensington-Cedar Cottage

Dunbar

About 100 dedicated Dunbar residents, assisted by the Community Visions team, spent a busy May and June in workshops generating ideas and directions for the future of Dunbar in the following topic areas: Transportation, Economy/Jobs, Housing, Environment, Character and Public Places, and Services.

The Visions team and City Planning staff coordinated the workshops and supplied information including maps, photos, and roughly 100 fact sheets, providing details on subjects in each of the topic areas, such as existing zoning, traffic volumes, occupations of residents and youth services. Copies of the fact sheets can be picked up at the site office and a reference set will soon be available at the Dunbar Branch Library.

Building on ideas generated in earlier steps (eg. Ideas Fair), a broad range of new suggestions, directions and themes emerged at the workshops. Workshop transcriptions are now available at the site office and can be mailed upon request.

On behalf of both the City Planning Department and the Dunbar community, we thank all the workshop participants for both their time commitment and their hard work.

During the summer months, the Visions staff will be packaging the raw material from the workshops into a preliminary draft Vision with the help of the Dunbar Community Liaison Group (35 residents from the Dunbar community). Public events to allow the community to consider the emerging Vision, and to add any missing ideas will take place in the early fall.

We look forward to continuing work with the community in September. In the meantime, please drop by the office or phone us for a more detailed update or if you have any questions.

Your Dunbar Community Visions Staff are Harv Weidner, Cathy Buckham, Catherine Seaman and Monica Stekl. The Dunbar Community Visions Office phone number is 739-9258.
