Renfrew-Collingwood CityPlan Committee Meeting
Thursday, February 3, 2005
7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Renfrew Community Centre, 2929 East 22nd Avenue

Attendees: Susan Zaric, Heather Weber, Paul Reid, Shannon Campbell, Julie Cheng, Rob Allen, Chris Robertson (COV Planning), Wesley Joe (COV Planning)

1. Welcome (Heather/Susan)

Chris Robertson was introduced as the new staff person responsible for Vision Implementation in R-C.

2. Additions to the Agenda (Heather/Susan)

No additions to the agenda.

3. Adoption of January Notes (Heather/Susan)

Corrections: Green Streets section should read: “…block planting party on 25th Ave. and Nootka.”

4. Sub Committee Updates

  • Traffic/Transportation (Rob Allen)
    Noted that there is a meeting on the 24th with Jim Hall from the City of Vancouver’s Engineering Department to discuss traffic calming measures and policies.

Meeting time and place: 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the RCC.

Rob also advised that there would be a Traffic and Transportation display at the Collingwood Days event. The display will inform and provide an opportunity to recruit additional members.

Action: CR to make copies of the Vancouver Transit Plan info and forward to Susan for this meeting.

  • Environment (Paul Reid)
    Nothing new to report.
  • Green Streets (Julie Cheng) - handout
    Julie provided an update on the block planting party and noted that contact had been made with the immediate neighbours and most appeared to be supportive. Flyers will be distributed at the Environmental Tea event to help advertise. Julie noted that arrangements were being made for the City to deliver 6 yards of compost and additionally she was hoping to get a cherry-picker from the Park Board.

It was agreed that in addition to advertising at the Environmental Tea an ad should be placed in the Collingwood News.

Action: CR to check on top soil delivery and cherry-picker.

  • Still Creek (Shannon Campbell)
    Shannon gave a brief update on the Integrated Still Creek Management Plan and highlighted the key components i.e. public art, fencing and interpretive signage. The fence work is scheduled for the summer and the public art component for the fall. Shannon also noted that she is submitting a $50,000 environmental grant request for the project and will report back on the outcome of the request.

The “Environmental Tea” is planned for April 9, from 1-4 pm Renfrew Community Centre. The event will provide information on backyard habitats, nature friendly greening practices, demonstrations on building nesting boxes, and it will include a native plant sale and an educational wildlife brochure will be available. It was agreed that $300.00 be allocated from the 2005 RC CityPlan budget for translating the brochure.

Action: Shannon to provide Paul with the details of the Environmental Tea for a brief write-up in the Collingwood News. CR to get translation services contacts to Shannon.

5. Eldorado Rezoning Application (Wesley)

Wesley noted that the applicant was considering changes to the project to assist with the provision of a daycare space.

6. Vancouver Transit Plan (VUTP) (Wesley) - handout

Wesley informed that TransLink, in conjunction with the City of Vancouver is currently reviewing their 5 year service provision plans. A schedule of public meeting dates and times was provided for those interested in attending.

7. Pan Visions Meeting (Wesley)

Wesley noted that the Pan Visions meeting is scheduled for Saturday February, 26th from 6-9 pm at the Killarney Community Centre room 203. Childcare and a light dinner will be provided. Everyone is welcome to attend. Paul Reid, Julia Cheng, Heather Weber, Susan Zaric, Rob Allen indicated they would attend.

8. Renfrew-Collingwood Annual Community Meeting (Wesley)

The Renfrew-Collingwood ACM is scheduled for May 28th 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Action: CR to confirm room availability at the Collingwood Neighbourhood House and book if available. If not, book RCC.

9. Next Meeting – March 17th at RCC 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Potential guest speakers Francesca Buck- update on web page info.

Action: CR to prepare a draft a budget for 2005.
