Mount Pleasant Community Planning ProgramYouth GroupsYouth have been involved in the Mount Pleasant Community Planning Program since 2008. Through partnerships with Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, the Youth Outreach Team, Broadway Youth Resource Centre, Mount Pleasant Community Planning program, and the Vancouver Foundation, this community of youth were instrumental in developing creative programs to include youth views in the community planning process. Shopping Area Topics - Photo Voice: recording and reflecting youth ideas and comments on their community's strengths and concerns on Mount Pleasant's shopping areas. Visioning Process: a series of 20 principles and priorities were identified from the photo survey. Citizens in Transition: themes emerged from the photo survey. Two films were produced by the Youth Action Team (YAT) led by Thor Larsen, community developer at the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House. Video's: Make a Park and Art in Mount Pleasant. Residential Area Topics - Collaboration and Connection: building on the materials from previous workshops, the YAT and planning staff designed and delivered residential area youth workshops to over 175 youth in January 2010, capturing their ideas and comments on Parks and Open Spaces, Services, Safety and Culture. The films were also featured at all of the Open Houses held in April 2010. At the Open Houses, youth invited their peers to attend and to fill out the questionnaire asking them to provide feedback to help shape the plans for Mount Pleasant during this final phase of the planning process. Over 60 youth participated at the open houses. For more information about the Youth Action Team please contact Thor Larsen at tlarson@mpnh.org or 604.879.8208. Shopping Area Youth Transcripts:
