Understanding Vancouver

Land Use

The map and tabular information shown on this page show the principal land uses within the City of Vancouver (2001). The single family areas which include single family houses with suites (coloured in pale yellow) represent the largest share of land use in the city at 32%. The second and third largest uses of land in the city are Streets, Lanes and Sidewalks at 29% and Parks or Public Service uses at 18%. Interestingly, industrial and commercial uses account for only a small share of overall land use at 6% and 4%, respectively. Note that land use may not reflect the current use and zoning on all parcels. For example, many of the city’s parks are zoned ‘RS’ (single family zoning). View the current Zoning Map.
