The Creative City Initiative

Vancouver is a young, dynamic and innovative city – a city where cultures from around the globe meet to experiment in intercultural exchange and innovation, pushing the boundaries of our emerging creative economy. We are undeniably a Creative City!

In January 2008, Vancouver City Council approved the New Culture Plan ― a strategy aimed at sustaining and further supporting our burgeoning creative sector.

Though the plan’s creation was guided by a task force composed of community members and senior City staff, it was Vancouver’s creative community that provided the critical input for the creation of this important living document.

The success of this ten year strategic plan depends on you ― every arts and culture organization, every artist and every resident that calls Vancouver home has a stake in our creative future. Visit this website frequently for updates and alerts on how to get involved in ongoing Creative City initiatives.

Culture Plan: Phase 1 Implementation

The following action plans will be presented to Vancouver City Council on June 26 (9:30 am at City Hall, 453 West 12th Avenue, Third Floor, Council Chamber), and will lay out steps to effectively address the needs of the community and align resources with strategic directions for the City's ongoing and future role in the creative sector. The first four plans include a Grants Program Review, Public Art Review, Cultural Facilities Priority Plan, and Cultural Tourism Strategy.
