December 2, 2003City announces appointments to PNE interim boardThe City of Vancouver today announced its appointments to the Pacific National Exhibition's interim board of directors. The appointments, which are for a term of up to one year, take effect January 1, 2004 when the City assumes control of the PNE. Vancouver's Deputy City Manager Brent MacGregor will chair the interim board. The other appointees are Estelle Lo, General Manager of Corporate Services; Mike Zora, General Manager of Human Resources; and Sue Mundick, Park Board General Manager. The directors will provide governance oversight for the PNE as it continues operations through its period of transition. The City also announced the creation of an Interim Advisory Committee that will advise the board on issues relating to the broader community's interest and involvement in the current operations of the PNE. The City will seek committee nominations from groups representing neighbourhood interests such as the Hastings Park Conservancy, the Hasting Community Association and the Hastings Community Forum, as well as groups that bring a citywide perspective to the table such as the Vancouver Economic Development Commission and Leadership Vancouver. Early in the new year, the City will launch a public consultation process to determine a new future for the PNE within Hastings Park. A permanent governance structure will be put in place once the consultation process has been concluded and Council considers a new vision for the PNE. Building on previous visioning efforts as its starting point, the public consultation process will commence in early 2004 and engage all concerned stakeholders, including neighbours, PNE and Hastings Racetrack employees, and residents from across the city.
