Polls open at 8 a.m. for October 16 plebiscite on at-large vs. wards
system
October 16 is voting day for City of Vancouver residents. Voters will
have the chance to decide whether they want to keep the current at-large
voting system or make the switch to wards on:
Saturday, October 16, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You may vote at any one of the 44 different voting locations throughout
the city
(For addresses and the location closest to you, see pickone.ca)
If you are not sure about where or how to vote, call the Election Office
at 604.873.7681.
To vote you must:
• be a Canadian citizen
• be 18 years of age or older on voting day (October 16)
• have lived in B.C. for at least six months on the day of voting
• have lived in Vancouver for at least 30 days on the day of voting
• not be disqualified by law from voting.
(University Endowment Lands residents are not eligible to vote, since

Voters will need to fill out a registration form, which must be signed
at the voting place. If you fill out the form (mailed to homes and
distributed through various locations) before arriving at the voting
place, don’t sign it until you vote. Forms are available at voting
locations, and online at pickone.ca. You will need to show two pieces
of identification with your name and address. One must have your signature.
Election staff will be available at voting places to help voters with
physical disabilities or those who need help with translation. Voters
may also bring someone to assist with voting or an interpreter (assistants
and interpreters must take an oath of secrecy.)
