City opens Election Office
To prepare for the November 19 municipal election, the City of Vancouver
today opened its Election Office at 450 West Broadway. The office will
be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays)
until November 25, 2005.
Election staff are now available to handle public enquiries about registering,
voting, and running as a candidate in the upcoming election. Vancouver
citizens may register in advance until September 27 at 5 p.m.
To raise public awareness about voting in the upcoming election, the
City has set up a booth at the Pacific National Exhibition through September
5. The colourful booth provides insight into the importance of voting
in municipal elections and also gives people the chance to register in
advance.
Vancouver citizens can also go to the City’s election website
at vancouver.ca/vote for detailed information on the voting process,
how to get registered, where to vote, and other related information.
The website includes:
- eligibility criteria for voting
- online registration form for voters
- voting division information in
VanMap
- detailed information for candidates.
The site will offer much more information in the weeks leading up to
the election on November 19, 2005.
