City prepares Voters List for Election 2005
The City of Vancouver is preparing the Voters List for a general local
election to be held on Saturday, November 19, 2005.
Election staff are predicting a list of more than 411,000 voters, which
is a 40 per cent increase over the 2002 Voters List of 293,000. This
increase is attributed to the amalgamation of voters lists from Elections
Canada and Elections BC.
In the November 19 election, Vancouver voters will select a Mayor,
10 Councillors, seven Park Commissioners and nine School Trustees,
each for a three-year term. Voters will also decide other matters such
as borrowing money for the City’s proposed Capital Plan.
To vote in the November 19 election you must:
- be 18 years of age
or older on November 19, 2005
- be a Canadian citizen
- have lived in BC for at least six months immediately
before voting day
- have lived in Vancouver for at least 30 days immediately
before voting day
- not be prohibited by law from voting.
Also, you must register to vote. There are numerous ways to register:
