May 29, 2008West End and Stanley Park road closures for Triathlon World Championships June 1-9More than 2,500 athletes will run, swim and bike through Vancouver’s West End for the Triathlon World Championships to be held from June 5 – 8. Up to 50,000 spectators are expected to cheer them on. This is the last qualifying triathlon race before the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Stanley Park and its attractions including the seawall will remain open, but traffic in the West End and the Park will be affected by road closures from June 1 - 9 to facilitate set-up, races and clean-up activities. Detour routes in the area will be clearly marked. The following major streets will be affected to accommodate the triathlon: West End Stanley Park
In addition, there will be car access restrictions for residents along the race route, particularly on Sunday, June 8. On-site race marshalls will assist residents.
