Showcasing the work of Emily Carr University students, the exhibition is a creative exploration and interpretation of sixteen historically important buildings in Chinatown. The artists conducted preliminary research on a building of their choice at the Archives. Their resulting pieces reveal how an examination of the past can foster connections to, and a better understanding of, Vancouver’s diverse communities and their significance to the city’s history.
On April 30th, the Archives was a site of active exchange and engagement as ECU artists led workshops for grades 4 to 10 students participating in the Vancouver Regional Fair of the BC Provincial Heritage Fairs Program. This program supports the exploration and presentation of Canadian history by youth across the province. The Vancouver Regional Fair was hosted at the Museum of Vancouver adjacent to the Archives.

The City of Vancouver Archives is pleased to be a site of artistic documentation and dialogue as we partner with Emily Carr University and BC Heritage Fair to increase awareness of, and interest in, Vancouver and Canadian history and heritage.
