Development Permit Board Advisory Panel

Overview

The Development Permit Advisory Board operates under Vancouver Bylaw No. 5869 PDF, as amended in November 1997.

Membership

The Advisory Panel consists of nine members appointed by City Council; at any given time, approximately half are appointed for one year terms and half for two year terms. Of the nine members,

  • two represent the development industry
  • one represents the design professions
  • four represent the general public (one of whom also represents young people in the community)

The Chair of the Urban Design Panel and the Chair of the Vancouver Heritage Commission are also members.

Qualifications

No person who is a member of the City Council or an employee of the City shall be appointed to the Advisory Panel.

Duties

The Advisory Panel reviews plans and models of proposed major developments, attends all meetings of the Development Permit Board, hears presentations from applicants and other interested parties, and advises the Development Permit Board before that body makes its decisions.

Re-appointment

All appointees are eligible for re-appointment.

Meetings

The Advisory Panel meets every other Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Vancouver City Hall. Extra meetings are sometimes scheduled. Several hours of preparation time are needed before each meeting. Meetings vary in length; the policy is for meetings to conclude no later than 10:00 p.m., although they may run later to complete hearing an item. Advisory Panel members may be called on to perform additional tasks outside regular meeting times.
