Gastown Historic Area Planning Committee
Overview
The Gastown Historic Area Planning Committee was established on July 22, 1993.
Membership
The Committee consists of 10 members appointed by the City Council. Council appoints members so that half serve one-year terms and half serve two year terms. Members represent elements of the Gastown Area as follows:
- One community architect representative
- Two community business representatives
- One community engineer representative
- One community heritage representative
- One community hospitality representative
- One community resident owner
- One community resident tenant
- Two local property owners.

Duties
The Committee
- advises the Director of Planning on matters relating to the HA-2 Zone
- preserves and protects the heritage and character of the Gastown Area
- works with all City Departments to develop and implement area policies and programs.
Reappointment
Council motion on November 2, 2006, requires members be appointed to two-year and one-year terms, with the option that a new Council may reappoint the one year appointments for a further one year in the new term, at its discretion. Committee members are eligible to serve a maximum of four years on the Committee. Committee members are eligible for reappointment.
Meetings
The Committee generally meets at 4 pm on the third Wednesday of each month, except August, at a location in Gastown.
Time Commitment
Committee meetings last approximately three hours. Members may also serve on the Design Review Subcommittee or on another issue-related subcommittee, requiring about three additional hours a month. Significant preparation time is required for Committee meetings.
