Vancouver Heritage Foundation Board


Overview

The Vancouver Heritage Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization created by the City of Vancouver on June 23, 1992, to promote the preservation, maintenance and restoration of buildings, structures and lands in Vancouver having historical or architectural significance.

The terms of reference for the Vancouver Heritage Foundation Board are prescribed by its constitution and bylaws. As the governing body of the Foundation, the responsibilities of the Board are defined by the Society Act of British Columbia.

Membership

The Board consists of up to eighteen Directors:  fifteen voting members appointed by City Council and three non-voting members, one City Councillor, one Senior Heritage Planner, and the Chairperson of the Heritage Commission.  The fifteen appointed Board members are chosen from individuals possessing qualifications or backgrounds in accounting, architecture, building or renovation contracting, communications, fundraising, investment, law, manufacturing, marketing, property development, real estate sales, retailing, tourism and from members of the community with interest in heritage conservation.

Duties

Duties of the Board include the following:
  • Increasing public and private involvement and investment in conservation of heritage resources
  • Developing policies for organizational programs
  • Supporting the development of a strong conservation industry
  • Managing the assets of the Vancouver Heritage Foundation
  • Fundraising and promotion of the Foundation to the public, sponsors, donors and planned-giving professionals.

Reappointment

Every Board member is eligible for reappointment. No member may serve more than ten consecutive years.

Meetings

Regular meetings of the Board are held at at the Foundation's office in downtown Vancouver on a monthly basis, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on varying Mondays. Members will also participate in subcommittees which meet as required.

Please note: Meetings of the Board are not open to the public.

Time Commitment

Members are expected to contribute a minimum of four to five hours a month on Board-related duties.
