Citizens' Peace Award
On September 12, 2006, City Council selected Dr. Jennifer Simons as the recipient of the 2006 Vancouver Citizens' Peace award.
On October 20, 2005, City Council selected Greenpeace as the recipient of the 2005 Vancouver Citizes' Peace Award.

Overview
Background
On November 2, 2006, Council resolved to discharge the Peace and Justice Committee.
The Peace and Justice Committee was established by resolution of Vancouver City Council on February 25, 2003. Terms of Reference were approved on May 27, 2003.
Terms of Reference
- to establish closer working relationships with cities which are working for peace and justice;
- to work closely with peace and justice organizations in the City to promote peace and justice;
- to collect and exchange information and liaise with other municipalities involved in peace and justice initiatives;
- to consider what initiatives can be taken by municipalities acting together, to further the aim of reducing the possibility of war and ensuring justice;
- to establish Vancouver as a city of peace and justice.
Membership
The committee is comprised of the following voting members:
- 2 City of Vancouver Council Members - serving as chair and vice-chair;
- up to 15 members of the general public, all of whom are residents of the City of Vancouver [one of the citizen members will be chosen as co-chair];
- 1 representative of the Vancouver School Board; and
- 1 representative from the Vancouver Park Board.
All citizen members must be residents of the City of Vancouver.
All terms of appointment end on the first Monday after December 1, 2005 as required under Section 160 of the Vancouver Charter. ![]()
