Candidate Profiles

Each candidate for Mayor, Councillor, Park Commissioner and School Trustee in Vancouver was offered the option of submitting candidate profile information with their nomination papers. These profiles could include a statement of up to 150 words, a recent, head-and-shoulders photograph of the candidate, and contact information. There were strict criteria about how this information could be submitted. View the requirements.

All candidate information was provided by the candidates themselves. The information was not checked for spelling or grammatical errors.

The Chief Election Officer and the City of Vancouver are not responsible for verifying or investigating the accuracy of information provided, nor for the content or accuracy of contact information.

Candidate profile information was accepted during the nomination period from October 4-14. Statement information was not accepted after the deadline. For candidates who chose not to submit appropriate information within the timeline, the words "Candidate profile information not available." were inserted.

A printed version of the Candidate Profiles booklet was distributed to Vancouver libraries, community centres and other civic facilities. You can also download the PDF version.

This information is being provided to the voters of Vancouver to assist in the election process.

Candidate nomination papers are also available for inspection at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall.

Campaign Financing Disclosure Statements

Each candidate and elector organization in the general local election is required to submit to the City Clerk, within 120 days of general voting day, a campaign financing disclosure statement. The deadline for candidates to submit their financing disclosure statements is March 20, 2006. Complete statements are available for inspection in the City Clerk's office, 3rd Floor of City Hall, Monday to Friday (8:30 am -5 pm). Citizens wishing to inspect the documents in person must sign a statement to declare that the inspection is for election-related purposes.

In a March 15, 2005 resolution, Council asked that campaign financing disclosure statements also be made available to the public on the City's website. Should the names of individual persons appear on disclosure statements, those individuals' names will be blanked out before the document is posted to the website. Displaying these names without explicit consent from those individuals would constitute a violation of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. See the complete report and minutes from the Council meeting where this issue was discussed.
