BOYER, Marc

BOYER, Marc

I’m presenting an opportunity to abolish Colonial rule, once and for all by swearing an Oath of Allegiance.  Council’s new Oath of Office is worthless and a bad joke

By definition: Since we patriated our Constitution [in 1981] means that when/if no one starts to take an oath of allegiance to Canada that [in law] it’s like flying a pirates flag over City Hall.

This abuse of power MUST stop, when any Councilor swears allegiance to Canada’s best interests.  Until then, politicians can legally sellout our Sovereignty over to NAFTA [under foreign contract obligations]

Sec 15 CCC defines it as LEGAL INSANITY:
To omit from doing the obvious and failing to see the harm that this omission creates. [The bull**** stops]

By swearing allegiance, politicians would now be obligated and accountable to citizens’ best interests.

Thank you Vancouver, for electing me to City Council in 2005.  I've used my experience in managing complex housing organizations, as the former Executive Director of the John Howard Society, to help make Vancouver a more affordable city by advancing the development of more than 3000 units of supportive housing and relaxing City policies restricting secondary suites.   As a former parole officer and Executive Director of the B.C. Crime Prevention Association, I remain aware of the important role police and community partners play in keeping our communities safe. I successfully fought to increase our police force by over 140 new full-time positions and introduce community crime prevention programs to Vancouver.  Finally, my record of leading major organizations, demonstrates that I can ensure Vancouver operates within a reasonable budget while delivering valuable services, especially through the Olympic period, to keep Vancouver safe, affordable, and vibrant.   Visit me at www.kimcapri.ca.

GELLER, Michael

GELLER, Michael

Vancouver faces serious challenges with a lack of affordable housing, the problems of the Downtown Eastside, and the impacts of regional growth.  The city is also not as happy as it used to be.

Solutions to many of these issues will require thoughtful land use decisions.  As an architect, planner, real estate consultant and adjunct professor with 35 years experience in the public and private sectors, I can bring a knowledgeable and reasoned voice to City Council.

From my early days with CMHC establishing the False Creek neighbourhood, to my recent work creating UniverCity at SFU, I have learned that exemplary community development requires creative partnerships.

As a member of Council, I commit to working collaboratively with our diverse neighbourhoods, not-for-profit organizations, city staff, and all council colleagues to make the best decisions for our city.  I ask for your support on November 15th.

LAFERRIERE, Audrey Jane

I want to be elected so I can do everything possible to make sure that no one lives, sleeps, gets sick or die on our street.  Minimalist shelters should be an essential service separate from affordable/social housing.

The City is wrong in its resolve to wait until the underlying reasons for homelessness are solved (see Homeless Action Plan).  For twenty years I have been told that we need permanent solutions not temporary ones.  Waiting has accomplished little.  Until the voters tell the City to provide more shelters, the street homeless will languish.

City-owned 142 Water/Cordova (old Storyeum site) has been vacant since 2006.

MEGGS, Geoff
Vision Vancouver

Vancouver needs strong leadership to tackle problems like homelessness, and the high cost of housing, which is dislocating renters and putting home ownership out of reach for a majority of our citizens.

We need action on transportation, to reduce gridlock and end the shortage of buses.
We need a strong Vision Vancouver council team committed to ending homelessness, making our city the greenest in the world and unleashing our creative and business sectors.

I believe I can make an important contribution that council, just as I did as a member of Mayor Larry Campbell’s team. Real solutions come when everyone – business, labour, the community – works together. I am committed to balance of idealism and pragmatism to get things done.

REIMER, Andrea

REIMER, Andrea
Vision Vancouver

In 2002 I was elected to the Vancouver School Board, the first for the Green Party in Canada. With teamwork, our board created needed change: restoring provincial funding, getting junk food out of schools, and raising expectations for public schools.

It’s time for change at City Hall. That’s why I joined Vision Vancouver to support Gregor Robertson and why I’m running for council.

I’ve worked with many movements for change including serving as Executive Director, Wilderness Committee; President, Canadian Women’s Voters Congress; Vice-Chair, Farmer’s Market Society; President, CCEC Credit Union; and one of a handful of Canadians selected to join Al Gore’s Climate Project.

But in 20 years of community service, nothing compares to the people-powered movement behind Gregor Robertson. Its proof we can end homelessness, create strong neighbourhoods, and become earth’s greenest city.

On November 15, vote Vision. Together we can restore leadership, action and vision to City Hall.

TRAMUTOLA, Geri

TRAMUTOLA, Geri
Work Less Party (Burnaby)

I’ve been an active volunteer in the arts community, an environmental activist, bike rider/transit user and a former resident of Chinatown.  I believe that our city leaders, past and present, have failed to address the true needs of a large segment of the citizens of Vancouver.

In the last few years, a small minority has benefited immensely, while conditions for the average working person have become more difficult.

It’s time to work together to create a city that can function well in a post ‘cheap-oil’ economy; one that pays attention to food security and ecological sustainability.

Other top priorities include: permanent housing for the homeless; seeing drug addiction as a health issue, not a criminal one; city-wide compost collection; streets reserved for bikes and transit; better policies for artists/community event organizers, with priority to the construction of housing co-ops and affordable housing.

WANSLEEBEN, Steve

I work in credit and collections management. I negotiate and mediate daily to resolve financial collection problems and disputes.

This experience, I believe, is partially why I am qualified to take on the challenges of helping you administer and develop this city we all love.

Today, Vancouver needs local ideas for local issues:

  • Lower the civic voting age to 16 to give younger people responsibility and influence in society, helping to reduce homelessness and addiction.
  • City councillors must spend time in our community centres; to listen and respond to neighbourhood, individual and community concerns.
  • Develop plans to reduce property taxes for both residents and businesses by eliminating unnecessary regulation at city hall and keeping city council focused on civic responsibilities.
  • Use our city zoning and licensing powers to encourage affordable market and rental housing.

WISDOM, Timothy

WISDOM, Timothy
Work Less Party

Timothy Wisdom dreams of a futuristic Vancouver where people live side by side with nature, where art and culture thrive amongst the citizens, and where someone can actually order a pizza for delivery at 2am.  As one of Vancouver’s most prolific entertainers, Timothy has been relentlessly promoting the arts in Vancouver.  It’s an uphill struggle due to this city’s limitations on venue curfews, absurd bylaws prohibiting dancing, and living expenses that few artists can afford.  Timothy’s goal is to make Vancouver fun.  This is a world class city and it’s time our artistic scene came to fruition.  As your future city councillor, Timothy will act as a voice for the arts and a force to push Vancouver towards the image of a true global city – one where creativity thrives and collaborations prevail.  If you’re unsatisfied with the cultural atmosphere in this town, help Timothy and make the change.

WOODSWORTH, Ellen
COPE

I am asking for your support as one of the COPE, Vision & Green candidates to return progressive government to Vancouver.

I have shown leadership in issues like housing, climate change, gender and creating a civil society - for all Vancouverites. I believe in safe, strong, diverse neighbourhoods and support local businesses. I advocate for affordable public transit and oppose the Gateway Project. While on City Council (2002-2005), I was Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee and representative to the Union of BC Municipalities and the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee. I sat on the Food Policy, Women’s and Creative Cities Task Forces and was Council representative to the Seniors and Youth Advisory Committees. I am an accomplished community developer committed to economic equality, social justice and environmentally sound planning that will make Vancouver a world-class city.

Help your COPE, Vision & Green candidates create a Vancouver for Everyone.
