He was known for his work on social justice, human rights and poverty.  Constance's is a strong voice in continuing his legacy of a "tradition of change and community participation".

DOUMENC, Ivan

DOUMENC, Ivan
Work Less Party

Ivan Doumenc is a community gardener and wilderness advocate. He has learned through experience that environmental protection and social justice are one and the same battle.

His personal response to the prevailing culture of consumerist nihilism is to focus on essential human needs – food, water, and community building. He is learning with others to grow crops in every available urban space, and he is working hard with fellow activists to stop river-energy privatization projects. He has decided to campaign with the Work Less Party because this movement understands like no other the strategic importance of decentralized community networks.

Ivan pays his rent by working as a software engineer. His wife and 5-year old daughter – both committed outdoor girls – are a permanent source of admiration for him.

HASKELL, Peter Raymond

In the Metro Vancouver area there are now 2,600 homeless which includes 94 children.  Facilities must be created by the Parks Board to help them instead of the same Parks Board making life more difficult for them.

I am for persons being allowed to place tents in Crab Park (a sign indicating this would be at the Main Street entrance) and creative shelters must be created at this and other Vancouver parks.

I am also on the ballot under School Trustee.

Vancouver’s natural beauty is worth protecting. Our children not only need places to play, but also places to enjoy and explore nature. We all need places of tranquil refuge from our busy lives. We need to invest in our aging infrastructure and not allow neighbourhood facilities to be taken away. We need to offer healthy choices in all our recreational facilities. Outdoor pools, ice rinks and athletic fields are important. Parks and recreation are important. Natural spaces are important. People and nature in balance is the Stuart Mackinnon’s vision for our parks and recreation system.

A resident of the Killarney/Fraserlands area, Stuart teaches at Killarney Secondary where he also coaches the Dragon Boat racing team. Stuart has always cared passionately for our parks and green spaces and believes in better parks and recreation for Vancouver. On November 15 vote for better parks. Vote Green. MAYENCOURT, Richard

I am an independent candidate who has lived, worked and recreated in the city for over thirty years. I'm a skate and snowboard activist who co-founded a group in 1988 that convinced the Provincial Government to allow snowboarding on local ski hills and recognize it as a competitive sport. Inner city kids need to have an advocate at the parks board level, seniors programming needs to be increased, and funding needs to be secured for continued community centre renewals. We need safe, clean and accessible parks. I feel I can make a difference in many areas in parks and recreation and on November 15, 2008 I hope you will help me serve you with honesty, integrity and pride. www.richardmayencourt.com

ROMANIUK, Anita

ROMANIUK, Anita
COPE

I am asking for your support as one of the COPE, Vision & Green candidates to return progressive government to Vancouver.

I am a former Park Board chairperson and member of the Douglas Park Community Association Executive. During my term, the COPE Park Board improved public consultation, increased support for the arts, implemented ethical purchasing, and encouraged energy-saving geothermal systems for the Sunset Community Centre and the Hillside complex.  I also moved motions to keep Mt Pleasant pool.

The current NPA majority refused to support carbon neutrality, ethical purchasing, initiatives on the homeless, International Women’s Day -  they say women are just another “Special Interest Group” - and failed to respond to the Mt Pleasant community on planning for a new pool.  We need a change at Park Board so that it is again responsive to your community concerns.

Help your COPE, Vision & Green candidates create Parks for Everyone.

I am asking for your support as one of the COPE, Vision & Green candidates to return progressive government to Vancouver.

In two terms on Park Board, I worked for public affordability and accessibility to services, especially for seniors and youth. I served on the City of Vancouver Seniors and Cultural Diversity committees since 2002. And as a member of the Park Board Finance Committee, I understand how important it is to use taxpayer dollars wisely.
