Candidate Profiles
Candidates were invited (but not required) to submit photographs, profile statements and contact information. The following requirements were given to candidates:
- Statements must be submitted and published in English because translation can result in subtle differences in the message that the candidate may not have intended.
- Statements must be a maximum of 150 words. Statements in excess of that will be reduced to end at the last complete sentence or phrase within the 150 word limit.
- Statements must be confined to information about the candidate, the elector organization endorsing the candidate, the candidate's independent status, the candidate's policies, and the candidate's intentions if elected.
- The Chief Election Officer will not edit statements, except to reduce the length. Incorrect spelling and grammar or other obvious errors will not be corrected.
- Electronic files must be accompanied by a print version of the statement signed by the candidate.
- All profiles must be submitted by the close of nominations (October 14, 2011, 4 pm).
- For candidates who choose not to submit profile information or a photo, or fail to submit appropriate information within the timeline, their name, elector organization (if applicable) and position nominated for, will appear with the notation(s) "Candidate profile information not available" and/ or "Photo not available".

Candidate Names
The alphabetized names of the mayor, council, park commissioner and school trustee candidates are found on one side of the ballot.
If a candidate is endorsed by an elector organization, the name of the organization appears beside the candidate’s name. Candidates who run as independents can choose to have either the word “independent” or nothing at all beside their name on the ballot.
In Vancouver elections, voters choose:
- One Mayor and ten Councillors for Vancouver City Council
- Seven Park Commissioners for the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation
- Nine School Trustees for the Vancouver School Board
