Election Workers
Neighbourhood gathering places such as schools, community centres and churches are used as locations for Advance voting and Election Day voting. Each voting place is run by a team of approximately 10 election workers supervised by a Presiding Election Official (PEO). Assisted by an Alternate PEO (APEO), the PEO is responsible for the efficiency, orderliness and general conduct in voting places, including voter registration, operation of voting machines and administering of oaths.
The election worker team also consists of Registration Clerks who register voters and issue ballots, and Election Officials who verify voters against the Voters list, issue ballots, and provide demonstrations of the proper method of marking ballots.

How do people become Election Workers?
A limited number of election worker positions are available for each election. The City of Vancouver Election Office hires Presiding Election Officials (PEOs) during the spring and summer months prior to a November election and gives preference to experienced PEOs. The PEOs hire their voting place workers and share the responsibility of staff training with the Election Office.
PLEASE NOTE: Applications are no longer being accepted for November 2011 City of Vancouver Election work.
