Stanley Cup Riot FOI Responsive Records
Within a day of the June 15, 2011, Stanley Cup Riot, the Information and Privacy Office of the City of Vancouver received a larger volume of requests for information and/or records related to this unusual circumstance. These requests were in addition to the usual high volume of requests received by this office and many of the requests, from different people or organizations, duplicated or matched closely with other requests.
A creative solution was necessary in order to provide responsive records to these requests while remaining in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of British Columbia (hereafter, the Act or FOIPPA).
To that end, a decision was made to provide full and complete public access to all responsive records with s. 22 personal and confidential information severed (”blacked out”) from the records and some other minor severing under other sections of the Act. Severed information is clearly delineated by a grey opaque box with the section of the Act under which the information is severed provided in the upper left in red text. A minor amount of third party business information has been removed from the records while the s. 21 third party notification process is completed. These records will be posted when the s. 21 process is complete.
