Councillor David Cadman

David Cadman is a three-term Vancouver City Councillor, who was first elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2005 and 2008.

David was born in Montreal and grew up in Toronto. He attended the University of the South in Tennessee and then moved to Geneva where he earned a master of arts degree in Interdisciplinary and International Development. He studied adult education at the Sorbonne in Paris and is fluent in French.

After spending several years in Tanzania and Kenya developing literacy programs, David returned to Canada in 1976 and settled in British Columbia. He worked for the Social Planning and Research Council in establishing the Community Development Institute.

In 1978, he began working for the Greater Vancouver Regional District (Metro Vancouver) and spent the better part of the next 20 years with them working in public consultation, communications and education. Prior to his election success, David was working as a private consultant.

A social and environmental activist for over 30 years, he has served as the President of the Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC), the Chairperson of the British Columbia and Canadian Environmental Networks. He has also served at the national and international level of the United Nations Association, and was awarded the United Nations Peace medal and United Nations 50th Anniversary medal.

David lives in the Grandview-Woodland area with his partner, Marisa. They have one son who attended Simon Fraser University and is currently studying acting in New York City.
