IBEW inspectors and technicians
ratify agreement with CityMembers of the IBEW Inspectors and Technicians today voted 82 per cent in favour of their contract offer from the City of Vancouver.
The agreement is similar to that which was narrowly rejected by CUPE 15 members earlier this week. It grants a wage increase of 2, 2, and 3 per cent and provides 14 additional paid days off a year in exchange for working an extra 25 minutes a day.
This local represents 25 members employed as electrical inspectors and electrical technicians in the Permits and Licenses Department.
To date, the City has also reached agreements with the following unions:
CUPE 1004, representing 1,700 members, ratified their agreement by 86 per cent. CUPE 1004 represents members who are employed in the areas of sanitation, sewer and water, and those who work as truck drivers and equipment operators. The local also includes a large number of employees in the trade categories (e.g. mechanics, machinists, and gardeners). Most CUPE 1004 employees are currently picketed out by the 2,800 members of CUPE 15, who are still on strike.
IBEW Engineering Operations Branch, representing 76 members who repair traffic signals and street lights, ratified their agreement on Tuesday, October 24. The vote was 80 per cent in favour of the proposal offered by the City. These employees are also picketed out by CUPE 15 members.
CUPE 391, representing approximately 725 library workers, reached a tentative agreement with the City on October 12. The CUPE 391 bargaining committee is recommending the settlement to its membership. Members of this local will vote on the agreement this Sunday, October 29.
