Entry Deadline for City Book Award Approaching

 

The deadline for publishers and authors to submit entries for the 12th annual City of Vancouver Book Award is June 15.

The $2,000 award is given each year to the author of a book in any genre that demonstrates excellence and contributes to an appreciation and understanding of Vancouver’s history, unique character, or the achievements of its residents. The winning book must also exhibit excellence in content, illustration, design, and/or format.

An independent panel of judges will pick the winner, and Mayor Philip Owen will present the award in October.

To be eligible, books must be published in 1999 or 2000. All entries must include: three copies of the book, a $15 submission fee (for each title submitted), and a completed entry form.

Entry forms and detailed award guidelines are available from the Office of Cultural Affairs at #100 - 515 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver. They are also available on the City’s Web site at www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/oca.

Submissions should be sent by June 15 to the Office of Cultural Affairs, City Hall,
453 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1V4. The short-list of finalists will be announced in early September to coincide with International Literacy Month.
