June 25 is Car-free Sunday

Vancouver City Council urges everyone to make this Sunday, June 25, a car-free day.

June is Bike Month and Pedestrian Safety Month, and Council is encouraging residents and commuters to use alternate modes of transport such as walking, cycling, or public transit on June 25.

Leaving the car at home that day will have numerous environmental benefits:

For every 100 km driven, a car can release into the atmosphere:

carbon dioxide 22-37 kg
hydrocarbons 157 gm
nitrous oxides 9 gm
carbon monoxide 1.3 kg

As well, there are personal benefits (improved physical and mental health) and economic benefits (no costs for parking or gasoline).

For more information on transit, visit: www.translink.bc.ca and
