[News Release Index]City to resume yard trimmings collection November 27The City will resume its residential yard trimmings collection program on Monday, November 27. Pick-up will follow the 2000 Collection Schedule which means that yard trimmings will begin in the purple zone. Residents are asked to continue bagging leaves and storing yard trimmings until City crews catch up with collection.
Next week, pick-up will be limited to six items (i.e. bags, cans or bundles) of yard waste. The remaining backlog will be cleared over the next three to four weeks. Residents are reminded that yard waste should be placed in biodegradable paper bags or big, clear (colourless) plastic bags or in a garbage can that has been labeled with a yard trimmings sticker.
The yard trimmings collection program had been put on hold in order to allow City crews to clear much of the backlog of garbage and recycling materials that had accumulated during the civic strike. Since garbage collection resumed, City crews have picked up more than twice as much material as is usual for this time period.
Effective Monday, the City will return to providing full garbage and recycling service.
Meanwhile, the Citys annual street leaf clearing program is well under way and will continue for the next several weeks. Since it will take some time to remove the leaves on every street, home owners and residents are asked to continue to avoid raking leaves into the street gutter. Instead, residents are asked to bag leaves from their yards and boulevards and leave them out for pick-up by the yard trimmings collection crews.
