Garbage/recycling collection and leaf clearing
to resume immediately

The City will resume all residential garbage and recycling collection programs on Thursday morning, November 2.

The City will be putting on extra crews to collect the garbage that has accumulated during the strike. Collection will be done according to the Year 2000 Collection Schedule. There is a 6-can limit for the first week of collection and the remaining accumulated waste will be collected during the second week.

Blue box recyclable collection will also start Thursday, November 2. Pick-up will be limited to one blue box, one blue bag and one yellow bag per household during the first week of collection. All remaining recyclable material will be collected the following week.

Collection of green waste (yard trimmings and bagged leaves) will be delayed until November 20 to enable crews to concentrate on removing the backlog of garbage. Collection of green waste will follow the 2000 Collection Schedule. Residents are asked to continue bagging leaves and storing green waste until that time.

The Vancouver South Transfer Station and Recycling Depot and the Vancouver Landfill in Delta will remain closed. Commercial haulers will continue to use alternate disposal facilities.

The City’s annual street leaf clearing program will also get underway Wednesday, November 1 and will continue for the next several weeks. For now, home owners and residents are asked to avoid raking leaves into the street. Instead, residents are asked to bag leaves from their yards and boulevards and leave them out for pick-up later. Residents should not put this green waste out with regular garbage. City crews will collect the bags of green waste as part of the residential yard trimmings collection program, commencing November 20.
