Greater.vancouver Wins Award for Best TV Newsmagazine

Greater.vancouver, the TV newsmagazine show co-produced by the City of Vancouver, the GVRD, and Rogers Television, has won a Rogers Impression Award for the second year in a row.

The show took top honours as best magazine show for its 1998-99 season, beating out Rogers cable shows from all across Canada. Last year, city.vancouver (the show’s former name) took home Impression Awards for best magazine show and best public affairs program.

The half-hour program looks at people, places, and issues in the Greater Vancouver region. It debuted in 1998 as city.vancouver, changing its title to Greater.vancouver last year when it expanded its focus to the entire region.

Greater.vancouver episodes have covered a wide variety topics including: a look at regional traffic with an eye-in-the-sky helicopter reporter; an examination of how the region’s dealing with population pressures; a special profile on the Downtown Eastside; a glimpse of a police forensic reconstruction artist at work, and many other stories.

Last season, the show had an average of 49,700 viewers tuning in each week according to calculations by Nielsen Media Research. This season, ratings indicate the audience for the show is growing steadily, with a high of approximately 90,000 viewers per episode.

Greater.vancouver airs new episodes bi-weekly on Rogers Television (channel 4) on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Sundays at 8 p.m. in most areas. See the Web site at www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/greaterdot and TV Times for show details.
