City Seeks Comment on Finalists for
Keefer Triangle Public Art
The City of Vancouver is inviting members of the public to help choose a work of art for Keefer Triangle, a public plaza east of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens Park at Keefer and Columbia Street.
Last November, the City issued a call to artists for public art work proposals that celebrate Chinatowns history and culture. Culled from more than 100 entries, the five short-listed proposals will be on display at:
Chinese Cultural Centre and Museum
555 Columbia Street
March 11-25, 2000
11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays to Sundays
Visitors may contribute comments through forms available at the centre, by e-mail to publicart@city.vancouver.bc.ca, or by fax to 871-6048.
An independent five-member panel made up of representatives with backgrounds in art, design, academia and the community will make the final decision on the art work. The choice will based on public comments, aesthetic merits, and pertinence and appropriateness to the history and current use of the site. The final selection will be announced by the end of April.
The work of art will be one of a series of revitalization projects planned to celebrate Chinatown, one of Vancouvers most historic districts. Keefer Triangle is expected to become a busy gathering place for residents and tourists, and home to a transit stop, and information centre.
For more information on the project, see www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/publicart or call 604-871-6000.
