SkyTrain Construction Will Close
Lakewood and Nanaimo Bridges

Two bridges over the Grandview Cut -- at Lakewood and Grandview Highway, and at Nanaimo and Grandview Highway -- will be closed for at least five months starting August 1, 2000 at 9:30 a.m.

Both bridges are being removed and replaced as part of a Provincial project to expand SkyTrain’s new Millennium Line. The bridges are expected to re-open in early 2001.

These closures will affect all traffic, including emergency vehicles, transit, cyclists, and pedestrians.

On Monday, July 31 both bridges will have vehicle traffic reduced to two lanes. On Tuesday, August 1, both bridges will be closed to vehicle traffic. However, the Lakewood Bridge will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians until August 21.

Transit and trucks will be re-routed along Grandview Highway. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use Victoria Drive. To avoid delays, residents and commuters should also use alternate routes, and travel during off-peak hours.
