Mayor Proclaims Pedestrian Safety Month

Mayor Philip Owen will officially proclaim June as Pedestrian Safety Month at a free public event:

Tuesday June 6, 2000
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Mayor’s proclamation at 12 noon)
Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgia Street Plaza

The event is the launch of a pedestrian safety awareness campaign in Vancouver. There will be numerous displays by participating organizations, including ICBC, new pedestrian signals from Engineering, and specialized rescue vehicles from Fire & Rescue Services. Lui Passaglia of the BC Lions will attend. There will also be live music, and free reflective bands will be given to the first 5,000 attendees.

Organizations participating in the safety campaign include ICBC, the City of Vancouver (Police Department, Fire and Rescue Services, and Engineering), BC Ambulance, and 3M Canada.
