City Closes Streets on April 16
For Vancouver Sun Run

On the morning of Sunday, April 16, 2000, about 40,000 people will participate in the 16th annual Vancouver Sun Run. The run, which starts at 9 a.m. in front of the Hotel Vancouver, will affect vehicle traffic in the downtown area.

Runners go west on Georgia Street and into Stanley Park. Runners exit the Park eastbound on Beach Avenue to Granville Street, northbound on Granville Street to Pacific Boulevard, and eastbound on the south side of Pacific Boulevard to the finish at B.C. Place Stadium. Most runners will finish the course by 11:15 a.m.

THE FOLLOWING STREETS WILL BE CLOSED AT THE TIMES SHOWN:

0500 TO 1000 Georgia Street from Granville to Bute. Burrard, Hornby and Howe Streets from Dunsmuir to Robson. Thurlow Street from Melville to Alberni.

0600 TO 1230 Pacific Boulevard from Cambie to Abbott.
Cambie Bridge off-ramp closed.

0600 TO 1200 eastbound Pacific Blvd. from Hornby to Seymour

0600 TO 1045 Stanley Park will be closed to all traffic.

0715 TO 0930 Georgia Street from Denman to the Causeway will be coned down to one lane in each direction during the run. All eastbound traffic, including buses, will be diverted along Chilco to Alberni, then along Alberni to Denman, to maintain traffic flow as the bulk of the runners pass. Drivers can avoid the race and access the Lion’s Gate Bridge via Robson Street and Denman Street.
Access to Robson Street from north of Georgia Street will be possible via Richards Street.

0800 TO 1200 eastbound Pacific Blvd. from Seymour to Cambie

0800 TO 1000 Georgia Street from Bute to Chilco

0845 TO 1100 Beach Avenue from Stanley Park to Granville

0815 TO 1200 Granville Street from Beach to Pacific.

The Vancouver Police Department, City Engineering crews and run organizers will be working to ensure a safe course.
