Vehicle Access Restricted During Symphony of Fire
The City of Vancouver will restrict local traffic access during the Symphony of Fire fireworks competition in English Bay on the evenings of July 29, August 2, 5 and 9, 2000.
On these evenings, vehicle access in the West End and Kits Point will be limited to residents who can prove residency through car registration or a resident permit parking decal. Taxis, buses, emergency vehicles and valid delivery trucks will also be allowed access. All others will NOT be allowed vehicle access into these two areas.
Vehicle access to the West End will be restricted from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on each of the four evenings. Residential traffic access to the West End will be at Nelson and Thurlow, Davie and Thurlow, Burnaby and Thurlow, and at Nicola and Robson streets (see map).
Wheelchair-accessible parking is available prior to 7:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis at:
- Bidwell and Burnaby
- Beach Ave., across from lawn bowling
- Parks Board Administration Office
- parking lot at Arbutus and McNicholl.
Kits Point vehicle access will be restricted from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on each of the four evenings. Residential traffic should approach the Cypress entrance northbound on Cypress. No access will be permitted from Cornwall.
Members of the public who wish to view the fireworks are encouraged to use public transit or on-street parking and parking lots in the downtown area. TransLink will provide enhanced bus service between Granville Mall, SkyTrain and English Bay beach at Denman and Davie streets. There will also be enhanced Skytrain and Seabus service.
Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light-coloured clothing; cyclists should be equipped for night-time riding; and boaters must have appropriate night-time running lights.
