TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Two Construction Projects on First Avenue Will Cause Delays

Construction at First Avenue and Clark March 4-5 and 11-12

Sewer construction at the intersection of First Avenue and Clark Drive will take place over the weekends of March 4-5 and March 11-12, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

The work will reduce the number of traffic lanes to a single lane in each direction.
Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider alternate routes.

This work is part of ongoing sewer construction taking place between Parker Street and 4th Avenue. The project will replace an old, deteriorating sewer and reduce the occurrence of combined sewage overflows into Vancouver harbour during rainstorms.

Following completion of the sewer project, construction will begin on left-turn bays from Clark Drive onto First Avenue. It is anticipated that left-turn bays will be completed by the end of August.

First Avenue and Rupert Partially Closed Saturday, March 11

The City will close the east-bound lanes of First Avenue, from Renfrew to Rupert, on Saturday March 11, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

This partial closure is necessary to connect existing watermain to a new pressure-reducing valve station at First Avenue and Rupert.

West-bound traffic on First Avenue will be not be affected. Access for pedestrians,
cyclists, and local traffic will be maintained. However, east-bound motorists on First Avenue must detour around the worksite. The suggested alternate route for this one-day closure is to use Renfrew, to Broadway or Grandview Highway, and then north on Rupert.

This project will ensure a reliable supply of water for domestic consumption and fire protection in the neighbourhood.
