Waterworks Construction at Rupert and First Avenue
Will Cause Delays

Waterworks construction at the intersection of Rupert Street and East First Avenue will start February 7, 2000 and go til mid-June.

The work will affect traffic in a number of ways:

• no left turns will be permitted any time from eastbound First Avenue to northbound Rupert Street
  (this closure does not apply to emergency vehicles)
• two existing eastbound lanes will be re-aligned around the work
• parking will be restricted to the west side of Rupert from First to Second Avenue
• the bus stop on the west side of Rupert Street, south of First Avenue will be moved half a block farther south
• a section of sidewalk on the south side of First Avenue will be closed to pedestrians.

Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider alternate routes.

The project will replace an aging underground pressure-reducing valve station. When completed, it will ensure a reliable supply of water for household use and fire protection in the neighbourhood.
