Recycle Christmas Trees at Charity EventReduce waste and help local charities by recycling your Christmas tree this year.
The Marpole and Mount Pleasant Lions Clubs are holding a weekend chipping event Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
Kits Beach parking lot
(Cornwall & Arbutus) Sunset Beach upper parking lot
(Pacific & Broughton) Trout Lake Community Centre
(Victoria & 15th)Only live, cut Christmas trees can be accepted (no artificial or potted trees) and decorations and tinsel must be removed. Donations of cash and non-perishable food items for local charities are welcome.
Vancouver households with City yard trimmings collection may put their tree out on their regular yard trimmings collection day. Residents may also take their trees to the drop off depots at the Vancouver South Transfer Station. For details call the Citys Recycling Hotline at 323-7710.
Recycling Christmas trees helps the City towards it goal of reducing waste by 50 per cent. In previous years, about 24,000 trees were collected. The trees are chipped at the events and then composted at the Citys yard waste composting facility at the Vancouver Landfill in Delta. The compost produced is used in the Citys Engineering and Park Board operations, and sold to landscapers and residents in the Lower Mainland.
