In the 2002 elections there were a total of 118 candidates. Of 280,003 registered voters, 140,332 actually cast ballots (there was also a significant number of voting day registrations not included in the number of registered voters). Voter turn-out in Vancouver is estimated at 50 per cent (one of the highest turn-outs on record).
