City Accepts Nominations October 1-11 for November Election
Starting October 1, Vancouvers Chief Election Officer will receive nominations for the offices of:
- Mayor (one to be elected)
- Councillor (10 to be elected)
- School Trustee (nine to be elected)
- Park Commissioner (seven to be elected).
These offices are for a three-year term starting December 2002.
The nomination period opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2002 and closes at 4 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2002. Candidates wishing to file nomination documents should call the City Clerks Department at 604.873.7276 to make an appointment for filing.
Nomination packages are available now from the City Clerks Department on the third floor of City Hall, or from the Vancouver Election Office at 450 West Broadway (& Cambie) in Vancouver.
To be eligible for nomination candidates must be nominated by two people who are electors in Vancouver, and must:
- be a Canadian citizen
- be 18 years of age or older by November 16
- be a resident of B.C. for at least six months before the day nomination papers are filed
- not be disqualified by the Vancouver Charter (or any other legislation) from voting in a B.C. election or holding office.
Nomination documents may be delivered by hand, mail, or courier to the City Clerks Department, Third Floor, City Hall, 453 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1V4 or faxed to 604.873.7419. (Originals of faxes must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2002.)
A $100 nomination deposit is required from each candidate in the form of cash, certified cheque or bank draft.
