City Prepares Voters List for Election 2002
The City of Vancouver is preparing the Voters List for the general local elections to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2002.
In this election, voters will select a Mayor, 10 Councillors, seven Park Commissioners and nine School Trustees, each for a three-year term. Voters will also decide other matters such as borrowing money for the Citys proposed Capital Plan.
To vote in the November 16 election you must be a Canadian citizen; 18 years of age or older; have lived in British Columbia for at least six months, and in Vancouver for at least 30 days.
There are numerous ways to register to vote:
- If you are a Vancouver resident, and were registered to vote in the last provincial election, you should be automatically included on the Citys Voters List.
- You can pick up advance registration forms at Vancouver community centres, libraries, community policing centres, neighbourhood houses, various community organizations, or City Hall. Complete the form and mail it to the Vancouver Election Office, 450 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Y 1R3. Your completed form must be received by September 24.
- You can register in person at the Vancouver Election Office, 450 West Broadway, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday until September 24 at 5 p.m.
- You can register in-person on November 16 at your voting place. However, to avoid delays at the voting place, it is best to register beforehand as above.
To find out if your name is on the Voters List, or to get more information, call the Vancouver Election Office at 604-873-7681. Voting information is also available on the Citys web site at www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/vote
