Unofficial Results of Olympic Vote

Chief Election Officer Syd Baxter announced, at a 10 p.m. news conference held at City Hall, the unofficial results for the February 22, 2003 Olympic Vote in Vancouver.

The single question on the ballot was:

“Do you support or do you oppose the City of Vancouver’s participation in hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games?
___ YES, I support the City of Vancouver’s participation.
___ NO, I oppose the City of Vancouver’s participation.”

(This question is part of Bylaw #8619, which Vancouver City Council passed on
December 12, 2002.)

Here are the unofficial results of the city-wide vote:

Yes 86,113 64%
No 48,651 36%
Spoiled 27 0
     
Total 134,791 100%

Based on the 293,263 registered voters in the November 16, 2002 civic election,
turnout for the Olympic Vote was 46 per cent.

Official results will be declared by the Chief Election Officer by February 26 at 4 p.m.
