What makes a successful urban park? Experts to discuss at public forum

Experts from Vancouver and other parts of North America (Chicago, Seattle, Dallas and Sacramento) will participate in a panel discussion on Thursday evening about different types of successful urban parks.

The forum will look at other city parks and explore the connection between public events and the design and programming of public space within urban parks.

Thursday, February 26
7 - 10 p.m.
Hotel Vancouver
900 West Georgia Street
Saturna Room (on the Discovery floor)

Panellists include:

  • Cheryl Hughes, Director of Program Development for the Mayor's Office in Chicago. Hughes is also a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
  • Mario Campos, Principal Architect/Urban Designer with Seattle architectural and landscape architectural firm Jones & Jones.
  • Stephen Chambers, Executive Director of the Western Fairs Association; Christopher Phillips of Vancouver urban design and landscape architectural firm Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg; and Willis Winters of the City of Dallas' Fair Park.

The Urban Parks Forum will help to kick-off the community consultation for the Hastings Park/PNE project, which begins this weekend with an open-house Ideas Fair at the Agrodome in Hastings Park on Sunday, February 29 (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.).
