Council appoints new members to Board of Variance
At an in-camera meeting held this afternoon, Vancouver City Council
appointed five new members to the Board of Variance.
The appointees are:
- Parveen Adrakar, realtor and accountant, with 30 years of community
service for various organizations
- Jagdev Dhillon, community planner with extensive
experience in community and regional planning including planning and
development consultant to District of Squamish and the City of Abbotsford
- Marguerite Ford, retired, former Vancouver City Councillor, active
in public affairs including chairing Vancouver’s Planning & Development
Committee, and Vice-chairing the GVRD Planning committee
- Alex Lam, professional electrical engineer with over 25 years experience
in project management, design, and construction
- Francesca Zumpano, administrator with over 20 years of Board experience
including founding Board member and Chair of Vancity Enterprises, and
former Board member and Chair of City of Burnaby, Planning.
The appointments are for a three-year term.
Last week, City Council’s Nomination Sub-committee reviewed applications
submitted by citizens who expressed an interest in serving on the Board.
The Sub-committee then presented their recommendations to Council in
order that they get appointed.
The next meeting of the Board of Variance is July 26 (tomorrow) at 1:30
p.m.
Earlier today, the B.C. Supreme Court dismissed a Petition filed by
the former members of the Board that sought to quash City Council’s
resolution to rescind their appointments.
