Council appoints new members to Board of Variance

At an in-camera meeting held this afternoon, Vancouver City Council appointed five new members to the Board of Variance.

The appointees are:

  1. Parveen Adrakar, realtor and accountant, with 30 years of community service for various organizations
  2. Jagdev Dhillon, community planner with extensive experience in community and regional planning including planning and development consultant to District of Squamish and the City of Abbotsford
  3. Marguerite Ford, retired, former Vancouver City Councillor, active in public affairs including chairing Vancouver’s Planning & Development Committee, and Vice-chairing the GVRD Planning committee
  4. Alex Lam, professional electrical engineer with over 25 years experience in project management, design, and construction
  5. Francesca Zumpano, administrator with over 20 years of Board experience including founding Board member and Chair of Vancity Enterprises, and former Board member and Chair of City of Burnaby, Planning.

The appointments are for a three-year term.

Last week, City Council’s Nomination Sub-committee reviewed applications submitted by citizens who expressed an interest in serving on the Board. The Sub-committee then presented their recommendations to Council in order that they get appointed.

The next meeting of the Board of Variance is July 26 (tomorrow) at 1:30 p.m.

Earlier today, the B.C. Supreme Court dismissed a Petition filed by the former members of the Board that sought to quash City Council’s resolution to rescind their appointments.
