Vancouver experiences damage from wind storm
Due to heavy winds from last night's storm and power outages, up to 150 traffic signals are out at intersections throughout the city of Vancouver.
Stanley Park is closed for the weekend. The Stanley Park causeway is closed today. The public are asked to stay out of Stanley Park - including the seawall. This applies to motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and joggers as there are numerous downed power lines and trees.
All venues and attractions in Stanley Park are closed today including the Vancouver Aquarium and Bright Nights. For updates for Saturday and Sunday call 604-257-8531.
On roadways throughout Vancouver, pedestrians, motorists and cyclists are asked to use caution. At intersections where traffic signals are not working, please use the four-way stop procedure - including pedestrians and cyclists. Motorists are asked to be especially aware of pedestrians and cyclists at these intersections.
City crews are working to restore traffic signals and will be working throughout the weekend. Park Board crews are working to make Stanley Park accessible and safe. It may reopen tomorrow.
BC Hydro is dealing with power outages and downed power lines. The public is reminded to stay away from downed power lines.
Public buses and the Skytrain are experiencing service delays. Contact TransLink for more information.
Expect delays on roadways. Roadways will be cleared on a priority basis starting with major arterials. To report downed trees or damaged traffic signals, call 604-326-4650 - but please be patient.
"Staff are working as fast as they can. We appreciate the public's patience as we work through this situation," stated Mayor Sam Sullivan.
